Prescription Drug Plan Part D
The Medicare Part D prescription drug plan is specifically designed to provide coverage for prescription medications. To be eligible for Part D, you must first enroll in either Original Medicare Part A or Part B. Typically, individuals opt for a Part D drug plan when they choose to stay on Original Medicare.
Medicare offers different options for prescription drug coverage. You can obtain it through a standalone Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan (MA-PD), or a Medicare Cost Plan, if available in your area.
The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) for Medicare Part D occurs annually from October 15 to December 7. During this period, you have the opportunity to select or modify your insurance plan for the upcoming year. Additionally, Special Election Periods (SEP) may be available under specific circumstances to make changes outside the regular enrollment period.
